Towards the end of 2023 and from the beginning of 2024, I had the fortunate opportunity to collaborate with New West Records on designing artwork for Richard Thompson’s forthcoming album, this was done at the request of Richard himself having seen some small designs I had produced previously.
Ship to Shore is the 20th studio album by legendary British folk-rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Richard Thompson, released on 31 May 2024 on New West Records.
It arrived six years after his previous studio album, 13 Rivers (2018), marking his longest gap between releases - a pause influenced partly by the COVID lockdown and Thompson’s memoir, Beeswing.
The album’s title references ship-to-shore radio, a motif from Thompson’s childhood, evoking themes of distance, connection, and transmission that run throughout his music.
